Having some issues with my regal. The trans (200) is shifting really late or not at all. I reset the tv cable to factory spec by pushing it in then going full throttle. its not out as far as it was, but no change. Pulled pan & changed screen when it first started. It would do it a lil at first & only sometimes. Now it has gotten worse. Was told it could be something other than trans so I want to eliminate all other possibilities before I pull trans. Timing is set a 16degrees btdc. If trans is bad, not going to rebuild. Heard these 200s are crap. Was told a bop350 is bollt in what about a bop400? Would it be too big for the 3.8? Seen one for sale locally.
Speaking of timing, when distributor is unplugged to set, it runs smooth but after I plug it back in , the idle drops& feels like it has a miss? I changed computer & modulator but no change. Recent tuneup too.

Any help or info u can give will be greatly apreciated.

The transmission is worn out. Nothing wrong with the TH200 they just were not designed for high performance engines so they get a bad rap. I've had several threw the years with the exception of a couple one 1st went out the other it was reverse. I'm not gentle on them either.
The Th350 will bolt right in.

Thanks. I have another 200 from a car I parted & might swap it in. Won't cost anything but my time. I noticed the tv cable on the spare trans doesn't pull out but I can swap with mine before installing.

Check fluid level.. other issue could be a dirty governor assembly. If it is just shift points wierd or late. Does it slip at all?3

Fluid level is good. Doesnt ever slip out of gear just hard to get it to go into gear. 25-45mph before goes into 2nd & 65 or so before 3rd.

sounds like a stuck tv vavle in vavle body if governer stick normal will take off in wrong gear if the governer gear strips first only

Reset tv cable again today. Pulled out farther this time. Wasn't at wot last time. Had to push linkage to make it go past a certain point. Also disconnected it & pulled cable several times. Took her for a spin & shifted better at first but after warming up... same thing! Maybe the valve is stuck? Guess I'm gonna have to pull the trans after alll.

Ok. Finally had time to put the spare trans in. Put fresh fluid & a new tv cable & still the same as the other one! At first was shifting fine but after about 5 minutes it wouldn't shift into second. Is there anything else that would make it do this or just my luck that the other trans is crap too?

just thought id throw this out there, is it possible its getting too hot ? my 200 i dont remember the shifts being far apart but mine the torque converter was locking up when it shifted 3rd. i later discovered the rad was plugged up with crap and it was causing the transmission to do all sorts of weird stuff.

Just disconnected lines & blew out radiator & lines... fired it up & same thing. At first it would shift but after a few blocks it stops shifting?
