...as I was pulling the axles out, which requires removing the locking pin for the spider gears, it broke off in the carrier.

I assume you mean the bolt holding the pin broke, not the actual pin itself.
This happened to me as well when I had my rear apart 12 years ago.
When I went to the dealership to get a new bolt, the guy behind the parts counter said it happens all the time.
The reason is because the bolts come with a little glob of dry-lock on the threads to keep them from backing out.
He told me to "knock that sh*t off there with a wire wheel and you'll be good to go"...
I guess I'll find out next time I pull it apart if it worked lol...

yup that is the pin that broke. It has happened to me a few times now. Getting used to pulling them out :x

Well the frame and the body came together quite nicely this evening. All the body bushings lined up perfectly and the car sits level. This was a concern that I had from all the metal work and construction that I had to do.

Tomorrow we put the reproduction doors on to test them out!

Looks good, I may be able to get out around 6 let me know if you still need a hand.

thanks on the compliments

Here are some of the latest developments. I ran all the brake lines, the fuel lines got the bushings set in place and placed the body on frame AGAIN and installed the new aftermarket doors onto the body. It appears I have some work to do on the body to make sure the body lines are straight.

Great work your doing here!!! I love my 88, but I won't do that much to bring it up to your level. Now if it was a 442....... Oh hell yes!
 Keep up the great job.

THanks Jet

Today I got the rest of the fenders and inner fenders stripped down of MORE UNDERCOATING  to get a primer coat applied and rust proofing paint on the back side. I also removed even more undercoating on the fender liners and applied a good coat of satin paint with some rock guard applied to the underside to match the rear fender wells.

The door shells look pretty good. Its hard to tell without the weatherstripping and trim panels, but the lines look pretty crisp and clean, and the gaps look pretty good as well. Congrats on another good restoration part.
