BUILD THREAD Project long time coming

Along with Driven, the Malibu looks killer with the stance and I think those wheels set it off!!!
I've kinda been burned with work and haven't even seen my Cutlass in at least a month! I'll likely be hunting for a portable garage soon, that way I can bring it home and try to get some stuff done. You guys are making progress and it's starting to relight the fire for me.

Thanks. It's hard to stay motivated all the time with life and such... I hurt my back really bad right in the middle of this project. What was supposed to take 2 months has now become two years. Had surgery, recovery, then just lost motivation to work on it or anything for that matter. I had become used to plopping my butt on the couch as soon as I got home and then get up only to go to bed. Bad habits are hard to break. Keep plugging away and you'll get there!

Well I've been picking away at it. Installed new cable lugs on my battery cable. Used heat shrink to cover the end of the cable and onto the lug. Installed new heater, upper, and lower radiator hoses. Forgot to buy coolant. I'll grab that on the way home tomorrow. Front bumper is back on. Parking brake is hooked up. Took the z bar into work and welded the oval holes up... LOL used an end mill and machined new ones for the clutch pedal rod and clutch fork rod. Much tighter now. Bead blasted it, primed and painted. Install that tomorrow night. Maybe iI'l start running the battery cable from the trunk to the front tomorrow too.

Well Happy Father's day to all you guys! I had a nice time this morning with my wife and son. Started with a pancake breakfast, then a local car show. Got home and started working on my car. Had to move the battery cable, then make a new power wire for the electric fans. New hoses from the gas tank to the body lines. Stab the distributor in and then time it. She fired up and ran for 20 minutes! Temp gauge didn't work which bummed me out. Pretty sure they sold me a sending unit for an idiot light, not for a gauge... But no big deal. It's running! Now clutch linkage, rear bumper, and hook up the brakes and I should be good to go! I have to post the video to YouTube. It's too big to upload here.

Sometimes it's just the small victories that keep me going. Got the rear bumper installed, replaced the temperature sending unit, started the engine, and the gauge works! Not only that, but the fans kick on and off as they should and the temp never goes above 180! Always had issues before and I figured out why. The aftermarket polished aluminum pullies slowed the water pump down and we're the root cause of my problems! Yay! Also started painting the brake calipers and ordered a clutch rod boot and spring since I can't find mine. LOL and yes it's that dirty... Soon I can pull it outside for the first time in two years and wash it.

So have you ever seen a g body speedometer like that before? I give you hint, it was factory in a Malibu, just not this Malibu 😉

And any ideas where I got this speedometer from? 😉

The ol' 9C1 speedo. I looked for one back in the '90's for my '81. Ended up gettng a complete '87 SS cluster for $25 back in '95 & gave up on looking.

Yep! You don't see them very often. I was lucky and got it while I was stationed in Georgia back in the mid 90's. Think I paid $25 for the whole cluster.. LOL

Working in the garage tonight. Time to install my brakes! I'm using Blazer front spindles, dual piston calipers, and Russell braided brake hoses. Thought the color might go well with my engine 😉

I have the exact same speedo in my 86 MCSS which I also pirated from a 9C1 Malibu!
