I can't remember all the details but the gist was LS based engines need the coolant loop to not dead-head. I don't know if it was an efficiency thing or if it caused issues w/the water pump cavitating.
There was a thread that touched on it over on Lat-g. They make a By-Pass set-up that allows recirculating the fluid just like looping the hose vs it going through the heater core.

Here is an image showing a recirculating bypass set-up vs one that just dead ends the supply flow.

scoti thanks for the heads up. I found this valve. It goes in both lines. When you're supplying vacuum, it bypasses the heater core and returns coolant thru the other hose back to the water pump. Guess this is/was a common thing. This one was originally for late 90's Suburban.

I know lots of guys just loop the line for their occasional street beater that's on the prowl. You mentioned some track time as well as actual drive time so I figured dead-heading might cause cooling issues on track which hampers the fun of your efforts. Glad you found something readily available @ hopefully a decent price.

You're correct, those lines can't be plugged. Or I should say, if you do then there will be a consequence to it.

Between all of us, there is a ridiculous amount of knowledge on this forum.

Been working overtime everyday, not much motivation by the time I get home. Really need to finish it so I can enjoy it this summer though.
Been picking away at things. New, revised, heater hose bypass is installed. Still need to find a vacuum source and hook both the valve, and the controls up though.

Finally was able to start putting the new carpet in. Forgot how much of a PITA it is.

Should be able to spend some time with it this weekend, I know it won't be done, but hopefully much forther along.

Brings back bad memeries of trying to get the seat mount holes and seat belt holes in the correct location - that definitely is a PITA when the carpet has memory in it.
