once again, your OCD humbles my impatience on my own projects! 😆

looking great so far, but with all that pretty stuff on the firewall and frame, that UCA sure sticks out! (sorry if I got something else going...)

my vote on the door would tend to be with everyone else, evaluate your spares (you have them for a reason) and go with the one that needs the least amount of finessing.

If'n it were me, and it's not, I would do as others' suggest- get the best door as far as least amount of work to get ready. So you can move on to other parts of the car with the extra time you saved.

I would also take the current door, and maybe- just maybe- finish it off later on when things are slow for your car, and get it in decent shape, then put it up in a dry place in the event you need one later, or if you decide to sell them, you can get top $$ for them since they'd be ready to just scuff and paint, or minimal work to get ready for paint.

Or not.

It's all about priorities and whether you want to do any extra work.

I would say its all in which you want to put the additional work into. I would almost think since youve saved the rest of the car you could keep all the panels original

Thanks for all the responses and opinions guys. It actually seems like the popular opinion is about split down the middle surprisingly enough.
I think once I’m ready to start on the door, I will be bringing in the other 2 doors first for evaluation before I do anything. At the moment, I’m tending to agree with those of you that suggested I start with the best of the 3, and better utilize the time saved elsewhere on the car.

Afterall, it won’t be the end of the world if one panel on this thing isn’t original. It’s not like it’s some ultra-rare, high end concourse restoration.

As for the ugly upper control arms that some of you have commented on, there’s a couple things to say about them. First of all, easily 3/4’s of them are covered by the inner wheel wells. That’s why they haven’t been a major eyesore to everyone until now.

Second of all, if those are the one glaring thing that looks out of place now, I take that as a sincere compliment. Because when I first started with this car, EVERYTHING under the hood looked like those control arms. That means I’ve done a decent job of restoring everything else around them up till now.

And thirdly, the entire front suspension is overdue for a major overhaul. The rear suspension is pretty much done with KYB shocks, UMI single adjustable lower control arms, and the 8.5” 442 rear end. Only the posi is left to do back there.

On the front however, I’ve so far only replaced the sway bar end links, shocks and spindles in favour of 2” dropped BellTech units. The rest I’m pretty sure is 40 year old original stuff, including the ball joints. Once the car is painted and mobile again, and not permanently occupying a stall in my garage, I plan on taking a weekend or two and going through it all, and probably replacing most of it with new and/or better quality stuff.

In the meantime though, I’m kinda suffering here. I’ve come down with a bad head cold, and have been basically bed bound for 3 days now. Likely as a result of my aggressive schedule in the garage, every spare minute I’m not at work. I guess it was bound to catch up with me sooner or later.

Hopefully I’ll kick this crap soon so I can get back out there. I’m already so sick and tired of being sick and tired, and I’m dying of boredom like this.
🙁

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I know it’s just a pesky head cold and it’ll be gone soon, but it’s always gotta do it’s damndest to make ya miserable as possible in the meantime.
With any luck, hopefully I’m near halfway through it.

D,
Sorry to hear that you're under the weather. You gotta take extra care of yourself and not let your resistance down. It's that time of the year where many people are susceptible to catching colds, flu bugs, etc.

Do what Dr. Chris had suggested....he offered some good advice for you. Take care and feel better, my friend. You'll be back in action before you know it.
