BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Donovan, if you wouldn't mind, could you be more specific about what you soaked the old seal in?

From the looks of it, it appears it's an L-shaped tool with what appears to be a square head on it??? You have the motor so you should know what key fits that manual actuator.

I'm not sure of it, but if you really needed one, I'd make something to fit a cordless drill for at home garage use and a 1/4" ratchet for the glove box. Who wants that manual L shape crap when you're in a hurry? Might be able to get one made perhaps? I dunno. Yeah, be nice to have the real deal, but there may be other ways to skin that cat.

Can't see that being much of an issue, but if you're far from home and the motor craps out when it's open...(there's a GPS in the motor to fail PRECISELY when you're X-distance from home and only when the "open" limit switch is made.) 🙂

I think you’re missing the point.
I said I wanted one for the novelty and to complete the package. I already know I can actuate it with a square 1/4” ratchet and extension, I’ve tested it out before.

I’ll probably start carrying a small tool kit in the car, so I’d have everything I’d need for emergencies. But to be able to say I have and display the manual crank kit with the car would be really lend an air of rarity and authenticity to it.

Guess I’ll have to add it my my list of unobtanium.
😕

Oh I get why you would like the real deal, but I was only saying in the meantime, it might be good to carry that small ratchet/square pin socket with you until you can find one.

My lament was the fact that they made a kit for EACH car with a sunroof, you could also buy kits for them, but now it seems they simply can't be found in the wild somewhere? That just don't seem right.

Bah, that’s easy stuff to locate!

Want a real challenge? See if you can find me an AstroRoof manual crank handle. Apparently the AstroRoof cars were supposed to come with one one in the glovebox for cases of emergency if the power crapped out on them or the motors grenaded.

Not surprisingly, it’s missing from this car and I’d love to locate one just for the novelty and to complete the package. I haven’t even been able to find a part number or picture of it.

I believe I have the instruction sheet and envelope for that tool/manual operation. I did have a complete setup with tool at one time but sold it to another member years ago.

Did you pour any water on the roof?

If you still have it and are willing to part with it Kevin, I’d be interested...

Nope, no point with no seal in it yet. Somebody didn’t read the update very closely!!
🤣

Hahaha, yeah I figured as much.
I know there’s usually a lot of text in my updates, but it’s there for a reason, and it’s usually useful.

You know, so you don’t look like a dork asking silly questions!
