BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

That is the exterior code, figured that what you wanted with pin strips.

Yes it is, thanks.
I just wasn't sure if that was an interior or exterior code, as my interior is Dark Claret too obviously.

Thanks once again, I really appreciate it!

If you need the interior code, just let me know.

I just might, but probably not for a while yet. The Claret is terrible for fading, so I've got some panels I'm going to want to respray eventually. Particularly the "A" pillar plastics off the top of my head. They're bleached almost white from the sun.

Here it is, GM 79 Dark Claret, PPG semi gloss 50994 & low gloss 50996. This is discontinued but a helpful referance UCV 2-479. Specialty Performance Products line is what I use for vinyl & plastics. I have used DDL but here in Pa it is getting harder to get. If I remember right DBU, DBC, & Concept can be mixed for most hard parts.

You sir, are the man.
Thank you! I'm making notes of the codes as we speak so I'll have them when I'm ready for 'em.
Good info on the DBU, DBC and Concept products being compatible on the hard interior parts. I wasn't aware you could do that. I would be afraid that the solvents would attack the plastic.
I'm pretty sure my supplier can provide and mix interior colours, so taking that code into them shouldn't be a problem.

Through good luck and good planning...!!!
😛

Ahh that's nothing. The paint will help tighten up the bass on em!

Thanks Eric.
I'm an ex paint and body guy, so I know the lack of respect guys in that industry get.
As for your comment about 3 coats of 2K, that's the plan. I plan on hitting it with 3 coats of high build primer-surfacer when done, and start blocking again in 120 and work my way down.

As for the products I'm using, so far it's 3M Platinum Plus body filler...

...and 3M Platinum Plus finishing glaze:

I'm a fan and firm believer in PPG products, I've used their stuff almost exclusively in the past. I usually use either their Global high build primer surfacer (for solvent based paints), or their EnviroBase stuff for waterborne:

But this time I'm going to try something new. I've used Omni paints before in the past, both single stage and base-clear, but never their primers. This time I'm going to try their version of high build. It's called MP80x, and it can be used as either a primer-surfacer or a sealer depending on mixed ratio. Should still be good quality, but at a little better price point.

Here's the P sheet on it:

I'll be reporting on how I like it, it's ease of sanding, filling properties, etc once I use it. Hopefully it's as high quality as the rest of PPG's stuff.

Thanks for inquiring!
D.
I've used all those products I'm in a PPG shop now and we tried the Omni with mixed reviews it worked for me but I think I'm spoiled from using PPG K38 it's just so user-friendly to me the Omni seemed thin and shrunk up a bit so we had to put them in the sun or bake them for an extended period of time.thats why we went back to K38

Thanks for the info Eric.
I expect some shrinkage to the Omni primer, but as long as it's not excessive I can deal with that.
As for K38, that stuff is no longer available here, and hasn't been for some time now due to stricter VOC regulations in my area. It appears the car was primed with the "yellow death" back when it was repainted, and from what I've seen so far, I'm not impressed. Mind you, it has more to do with the person that applied and prepped it than with the product itself.

The Hurst Olds my brother has was slathered in that yellow stuff
