They are very good carburetors- GM used them forever but they could not pass emissions. By '79 the Dual-jet had mostly taken it's place. And the Dual-jet is also a very good carb- when used appropriately. I had a '72 Catalina with a 400 and 2GC. It was a monster! The 2GC even has a "float drop" adjustment. That is- it restricts how far the float can drop so the float needle doesn't come free from the seat. I learned that the hard way.
