While Cliff's book is very good- I consider Doug Roe's book to be the Q-jet bible. His explanation of the physics of carburetion is spot on-so even an idiot like myself can understand how they work. He spends a lot of time on a thorough stock overhaul and only later does he delve into high performance modifications. I am always referring to his secondary metering rod charts.

Gotta say, the cover does look cooler.

I have the Doug Roe book sitting on my shelf next to my Holley manuals. 🙂

so it takes you one book for the "complicated" quadrajet but multiple manuals for the Holley?...😀

I going to get me Doug Roe's book and see what it's all about...then I will have multiple manuals for my quadrajet and none for Holleys

Steve- you will appreciate that book a lot. It covers one, two, and four barrel Rochester carbs. He begins with a one barrel and explains why it works. After you understand the principals you realize all carburetors work the same and that once they are calibrated for a particular engine- all that can really go wrong is they get dirty inside. Outside dirt really doesn't matter much but should be cleaned off with a spray can of carb cleaner as routine maintenance anyway. A guy that swaps in new gas and air filters regularly will never see a dirty carb inside. But after years of neglect, the filter gets so clogged that the fuel pressure overcomes the spring behind the filter and allows dirty gas to enter. It doesn't take much of that to get a particle lodged in the float needle seat and now the carb floods. That is why I always advise to keep the original carb. All it usually needs is a good cleaning, double check the adjustments, and put it back in service. Keep up on the maintenance and it will last as long as the car.

Steve,
I should've expected a smart *ss remark like that from you.......but I still love ya..😛
Believe it or not, I've never rebuilt a Q-jet before, but I will eventually make use of the book. I've had it for almost 30 yrs. Like Mark said, it's a very informative book. I also like to have various manuals at my disposal. As they say, you can never have too much information.
Holley carbs are extremely straight forward...but it's still good to have access to specs from jetting to float level specs, etc.

To be completely honest, there are very few reasons to not have a q jet outside of extreme hp applications, and lack of availability for a particular model you may need, I suppose.
