I have a 70 year old farm tractor which I use for mowing. The engine block is factory wet sleeved so it doesn't require reboring for a rebuild.
Tv's have become the new throwaway item compared to the past tube sets.
We had a 25 inch tv from 1983 that still worked just a few years ago until we had to get rid of it because of the HD revolution. You could still work on it and replace parts instead of the whole set. Now the flat screen has something go and it is junk. I had a few last just over a year and the screen went black. These were not $99 specials and were name brands that had good reviews on many websites. These flat screens have certain hour limits and some die way before the projected time. Still, if you are past the warranty period you are S.O.L.
that reminds me when I was a kid (brat) it was common to have to replace tubes to fix radios and the b&w televisions.....
Since everything went over seas and all companies care about is maximum profit, nothing lasts anymore. Appliances would nearly last your lifetime years back. Tools, auto parts everything is in the same boat. Sears in it's death role giving bonus's to idiots who are killing the company is insane while shutting stores and laying off people. This is what is wrong with the corporate world.
We always had good luck with Sears appliances. We have a dryer going on 25+ years from them and all I had to replace was the rubber wheels the drum rode on about 10 years ago. Still works as good as day one. Dishwasher also the same age. Still works fine. I doubt I would have that happen with todays items.
I hope you didn't just jinx all your appliances with that post ......😀
I agree about Sears, other than their sticky ratchets, my 25 year old Craftsman tools are still kicking. Dad had Craftsman battery freeze. I think that battery lasted for years till the truck sold. The Sears in our town is closing but the store will stay open under private ownership. We always had good luck with Sears appliances. I hate seeing what is happening with Sears and a bunch of other companies. My craftsman tools are 40 years old and will outlast me! I had good luck with Sears batteries back in the early 80's where one lasted 8 years! Use to get good deals on tires from Sears back then also. Our local store was excellent because it had great people working there who gave 110% trying to help you. I was sad to see it slowly change and become a place to avoid before I moved to AZ.
