Turna,

I read a post by you on maliburacing.com that had this master cylinder.

AC DELCO Master Cylinder Part # 89056529 or 18M974 (same master)

Does this master cylinder work with the stock brake boosters in g bodies?

I used the Inline Tube kit with parking brakes and it works better than good - IT's GREAT! My opinion of course lol. We have the blazer front spindles converted to LS6 rotors and pads - holy schmoly - night and day compared to the stock stuff. I would recommend the Inline Tube stuff to anyone - their support is GREAT. These brakes with the biggest front and rear sway bars available makes it feel like a modern car in terms of turning and handling.

It's about $800 worth of brakes, but if you can get your G-body cranked up to 150mph, then you'll feel better with it - trust me. I had the stock parts in the 140 range and I felt as if my life was in my 40 year old brakes (can you say poop stained underwear lol!)

Don't cheap out on brakes - life and death.

Regarding the master cylinder and proportioning valve, it depends on the year of the booster you have. There is a large bore and small bore diameter master cylinder. I have a thread about this a year or two ago. If you have an older brake booster, either '80 or '81 before then you need the small diameter M/C. I used a small bore M/C for an '80 Riviera - worked PERFECT. Search for the thread and you'll see what I mean.

Ok for now I’m going to use the clips TURNA suggested with a new pair of back plates and wheel cylinders. My 350 goes to the machine shop in 2 weeks and once it’s there the money going to start disappearing. I got to keep my priorities straight and stop getting distracted.

Going to plan to do the brake upgrade next winter/spring21 and keep researching this ,anything I fine I will post here. Thanks everyone for all the help.

The old rear end is out should be putting the posi in soon.

Completely understand. I have another cutlass that has drum as the rear brakes. I did not know about the brackets turna showed us. I will be installing those as well.

64nailhead helped me sort out my master cylinder questions. I should be getting my complete brake system sorted this month.... I hope.

Reach out again once you start your rear brakes and I'll help anyway I can.

Btw, nice ride.

So searched about these kits and found this thread. I’m also looking to convert my rears on my 83 Regal to a disc set up. I’m pretty handy around cars and not afraid to tackle a project. But when it comes to this, I’d rather be safe than sorry and if best left to a professional so be it. So with kit I’m linking below, would this just be pretty straight forward bolt on or more involved? I see mention of master cylinder, proportioning valve and possibly removing the axel. Would any of that apply with this kit, if so what needs to be done.
Thanks in advance

I have only looked into myself, but it looks pretty much a bolt on kit. I had to remove my axles to replace the backing plates but you could probably just unbolt them and cut them the rest of the way off.

Removing the axles really wasn’t that hard and that’s a good time to replace the axle seals while you have them out.

That looks like a decent kit for the price. Like white85 said, removing the axles is not too hard. You will need to replace the proportioning valve to a disc/disc proportioning valve. I bought mine from inline tube but many vendors sell them. Also the master cylinder will need to be replaced. I bought this master cylinder for my setup.

64nailhead suggested this master and uses it on his ride. I have not installed my master yet but plan to soon.

Good luck with your project. Let us know if you have more questions.

Buddy of mine mentioned possibly having to remove the combo valve? My car isn’t here to check, but he said most front disc, rear drum cars should have one.
