I am not putting the Ford 9" down at all, but it is a very heavy rearend. I just still argue that a 7.5" built right is plenty of rearend for a street car.

every c-clip axle is inherently weak. that's what eliminators are for. or retro fitting to ford style outer bearings.
the 7.5/7.625 with a high strength ring and pinion and high strength axles seems to be a pretty good setup. just never get a gov-loc posi. i know someone who blew one up with the wheels in the air!

A 9 inch is about as heavy as a 12 bolt but stronger if you get the strange engineering alum case its light and stronger then a oem one.

The reason a Ford 9 consumes more power and mileage than a GM 12 bolt or 8.5 has to due with the way the gears mesh not the weight of the unit which is also why its stronger.

7.5 will break!

New Guy here...7.5 will most definitely break. I just built a stroked 350, broke six teeth on the ring and chewed up the pinion on my second pass down the track. First pass was 1.68 60 foot, 7.34 1/8th 11.53 quarter, under sloppy track conditions. Spun off the line on this pass, started towards the wall and lifted, got back into it to complete the pass.
