Rear End Options...

I have a 455 in my Cutlass and have yet to break the stock 7.5...as long as you dont beat the sh*t out of the rear and launch with super sticky slicks you wont have issues...

i wouldnt waste any money on a 7.5 stock fbodys break them

the f bodies came with a 7 5/8 rear end which is barely any stronger than a 7 1/2 rear....if you have enough torque to tear a 7 1/2 apart you might make it another 5 feet before the 7 5/8 blows up...

and in case you want to use a 7 5/8 they fit in the 7 1/2 housing but the spline may be 28 instead of 26....

Thank you beeterolds, if this guys 455 isn't breaking his 7.5" then ya'll ain't breaking a 7.5" with your 300hp 350 chevy's. and if you do have problems with one then it wasn't maintained or has like 250,000 miles on it, which in that case you didn't break it, it was worn out!!!

I've been rocking an S10 Blazer 7 5/8 stuffed in my 7.5 housing with narrowed Blazer axles behind my 400+ hp 383 for five years. Nothing but good times. 3.42s and huge axles (bigger than an A-Body 12 bolt) for $200. I love it.

okay dudes just to clarify...

You can use a

10 Bolt GM 7.5" (7 5/8") posi 28 Spline carrier

all i would have to get is the 28 spline axles from MOSER for the G-BODY

????????????????????????????

also, if a carrier is missing the CROSS pin... can you still use it

????????????????????????????

Add to that a girdle cover www.taperformance.com and you have a very strong 7 5/8 however if that posi carrier is new you could have an 8.5 for the same money. BTW IMO Eaton has far and away the best posi for a street car. If you set up your 7.5 this way it will take all that 350 will throw at it even with slicks. At least if the 28 spline axels are hardened like you get from Moser not sure about the stock 28 spline 7.5 axels like what came in many S-10s & Blazers.

thanks... so its a definite yes then for the

GM 28 Spline 7.5" ( 7 5/8" ) 10 Bolt carrier

I will definetely buy that girdle cover.. and get the MOSER 28 spline axles for the G-BODY

one more thing, CARRIER PIN, REPLACEABLE right?

i wouldnt waste any money on a 7.5 stock fbodys break them... i plan on finding an abody rear end for my car, from what ive gathered its a pretty easy swap, you just end up with a rear thats a little wider and need to run more back spacing to make up for it...

I would like to see a stock fbody break a 7.5"

ya'll crack me up with your talk about breaking a 7.5" I bet there isn't one person on this site (unless you have a complete drag car) that has broken a rearend :?

Here is what a 7.5 looks like when to much power is put to the ground.

An axle coming out is what ya'll consider "breaking a rearend" lmao

I also recall someone mentioning that this rearend has welded spider gears, that right there is going to compromise the strength of the internals

I have seen axles come out of plenty of rearends. My dads old 300 straight 6 2wd F150's rear completely broke the main gear in it, does that mean it had "too much power"

No I don't consider an axle coming out as blowing a rearend but when all of the internal parts including the little 7.5" ring gear exploding and or the pinion gear breaking off from the front of the housing and those little axles come out at over say 55 mph+ because all that is holding them in is some little crappy c-clips. Then you got major problems and maybe death on your hands. Why do you think drag racing requires c-clip eliminator kits on even the 8.5 rear when you run so fast. That is why most people try and put a heavier rearend under their cars from the start. To save the headaches and the drama later. Running any major power in front of a 7.5 rear is like rolling dice and gambling . You may roll the dice many times and never have a problem and win every time but all it takes is that one time to crap out and blow it all over the highway or track and it could be your life that you lose. To me, I value life to much to gamble with it. With me running 500hp+ I went with a Ford9". In my mind I had no choice. I personally have had 7.5 rears in Chevy Monza's let go on me and I have had friends in V8-S-10's blow all the internals all over the road and the little axle and wheels go rolling by the car. To me that isn't fun and is plain scary. I think the little extra time and money I spent for the Ford 9" is worth the trouble. Just my 2 cents worth.
