not sure why more of you are not looking to swap in a ford 8.8 rear from a fox body mustang. they can be had for around 200 with 3.73 or 3.42 gears. they are said to be as strong if not stronger than a 12 bolt, seen many 8.8 mustangs go well into 9 sec range with minimal work. and the kit to bolt them in is 500. and a 25 dollar conversion u joint. just gotta put on the spring pads and fab brake lines. early tbird turbo has disk brakes newer mustangs disk brakes both bolt in but are a little wider.expllorer rear direct bolt into s10.cheaper than if you were to put a 8.5 in with adj control arms and find or shorten driveshaft. this is what i am doing with my tpi sbc cutlass. frankencutlass. here a link to the kit and search google this is not a un common swap quite a few g bodies with this. oh yeah dont buy the trz kit it has ic issues if you car is not nhra prostock lowered lol. ok for all the purist im not knocking the 8.5 just saying that the 7.5 sucks and this is a alternative to shelling out 800 for a 8.5 buying control arms and upgrading to disc brake. sorry for the kind of rant / thread jack but think this may be relavant useful

they are used parts but it's hard to find them and when you do the asking price is usually well over what gbody parts are asking..personally I'd rather go with a 10 bolt B body rear end

As far as the 8.8 ford rear is concerned, I've heard that the crown victoria has a more compatible rear for the g-bodies. Does anyone know if there is truth to this statement?

crown vic is wide. mustang is about 1/2 wider and ive havent seen the kits for any kits for the crown vic rear.

If you're not planning on running faster than 11s in the quarter mile with sticky tires, a properly built 7.5 will hold up just fine.

Good idea. My current 7.5 has two rebuilds and well over $2500 into it. Only engines that have been in front of it have been stock or close to stock 305s and a 301. Nothing more that stock width street tires. And I believe it's on it's way out again.
