If you're going to be increasing the valve lift much over .480", then your machinist needs to know that so that he can get correct springs and retainers, and also cut the guides down for proper seal clearance. But I'm with Texas82GP, working your heads has a lot of potential to be just as expensive as picking up a new set. If your machine shop is worth a poop, then you should be able to mention this to them and they'll take a quick look and let you know. They'll be looking in the crack prone area on the deck surface, checking for flatness, and knocking out a couple of valves to check the valve stem to guide clearance. If they are decent, they won't charge you to tell you about them.
