Really? Wow. Well the glass shop I got mine redone at, charged me $400. I had to wait for the material to be ordered. I assume the reason for not remove the old material is because if it's pulled off, it takes much of the foam with it.pontiacgp said:Cutty454 said:what does that usually cost?
when I was thinking about getting mine redone to try to make it look better all the shops I checked out would only put another layer of vinyl and not remove the vinyl that was there and they were not cheap...I never liked the look of the vinyl roof so they made up my mind to remove the ugly covering
Pretty much sums it up right there. Depends on what you like, what you want, if you want it badly enough you will pay and/or spend the time to get it done right. Laudau top is one of the things I'm hooked on, on a g-body, but that's just me lolpontiacgp said:I don't mind paying for something I like,

Do NOT use a grinder. The heat and sparks can potentially damage your paint and/or glass.
Grab them with a vise-grip and twist them off.
good point....

well crap...wish I had known about the bit about the vice grip...oh well, live and learn I guess...my paint job is a rattle can black and the rear 1/4 glass is going anyway, so for me it wasn't a big concern with paint/glass being damaged...but it did make sanding the adhesive a lot easier...
I don't really care for the landau top on my car, I like it better without it...

-Get a rear filler panel from a non-vinyl car, or possibly make your existing one work with some welding/bodywork

No need. The panels are the same, but the vinyl top cars may have the little studs to hold the trim on. Just twist them off and be done. Done the conversion a few times. An ebay store called "Fasteners Plus" has the screw in studs for the window trim along with the special clips that go along the filler panel at the base of the rear window.
