Any good tips so I dont crack my windshield?
thanks!

I've often wondered what method is used to remove the mirror mount. Applied heat seems to make sense.

you can use a hair dryer,it will take a little longer to get it hot enough. but when removing the mount make sure twist it lightly with a pair of vise grips. take your time. it might take awhile but you wont hurt the windshield.

use a razor blade to slip in-between the windshield and mount. Some use a putty knife that has a sharpened edge. It'll pop off

Steve,
I tried using a razor blade once to no avail. Maybe I was being too cautious not to hurt myself...

the guys I know in the restoration shop use that method all the time and they still have all their fingers..they use a blade in a holder...

If your careful you can heat the metal lug with a Iron and gently grab it and pull with a pair of vice grips.
you are referring to a soldering iron, right?
