Removing the rearview mirror mount from the windshield

I glued this mount on over 10 years ago and it has yet to come off.... I'm afraid to wrestle with it.

Someone said there is an adapter I can use?

Or mount the new one on the old one, but I want this mirror to mount flush instead of sticking out.

If anyone knows of some mystery adapter fill me in!

if you're worried about removing it why not call a couple of glass places to see what they'd charge

In auto body school we were taught that if you were installing a windshield that came pre-equipped with the mirror mount, but was not correct for the mirror, to simply glue the correct one on top of the existing one, and not to bother removing it.

Yeah, that's cheaper and easier, but looks like crap since the mirror wont be sitting flush with the glass. IDK, I might try it though.

It seems when you don't want them to come off, they do....with the mirror, of course.
The other day I was trying to take the button off of my windshield, which needs to be replaced. I was trying the blade trick, it doesn't want to budge. I think there's something said about using heat. Heat (or sun) seems to loosen them up down here in the sunshine state.
