Donovan or someone with similar experience: could you explain this "ospho" stuff? I'm asking because the top of my wood stove is pretty rusty. I want to get some paint back on the top, and was probably going to use VHT header paint. The stove "polish" seems to be wax based, and doesn't last for crap. Hot rod anything!!!

Is your woodstove outside to get so rusty? Our woodstove looked pretty good, ran it for a few years. Mom and Dad's wood cook stove look pretty good for nearly 50 years old. Doesn't the acid basically cause a chemical reaction to convert the rust to a black paintable surface? It definitely helped my 88's rust. I will be using a lot on my 70S.

It's inside, but I have a cool little dragon humidifier that shoots well water steam out of its nostrils and I cook on it. Basically, those steam off the polish. I need a more permanent solution...

OSPHO works good on rust conversion. I have used it on large motors that are located outside. It will turn white when it dries and after that you can paint over it. Is it a cast iron wood stove?

I'm calling PETA.....

where did you get those?
It was a Christmas gift, but I think it was Plow & Hearth. The nostril steam holes are a little small, so I drilled them out a little bigger. Also, it's teal now, because little girl in the house.

It's 1/4" plate steel. Basically a Fisher knock off made by Schrader....

About halfway down the page, a guy has the exact same stove but with a rear exit; mine is top flue.

I didn't have any problems with paint sticking to the motor I did this too. I just knocked the large scale rust off with a putty knife, sprayed the ospho on it and painted it after it dried.
