hi I am completely new to this group and the whole forum stuff I know some people frown upon a Chevy motor in a olds but I accidentally purchased a 68 Chevy 307 instead of a 350 still a small block and would like to set that motor in my 78 cutlass salon 4 door that had the 4.3l v8 260 with the metric th200 transmission I bought motor mounts for the 307 just a few questions as in the frame mounts can I use them? Andy external parts off my 260 such as power steering pump work? And have a th350 and a 700r4 but don't know what one to use any help would be appreciated thank you

You will need the frame mounts for a Chevy and none of the accessories from your Olds will bolt on the Chevy engine.
For anything you need from an autoparts store I would just say you have a 78' Monte Carlo with a 305 or 5.0 liter.
For your accessory drive you could search local junkyards and possibly find a complete serpentine system or look on Craigslist etc.
Aftermarket SBC stuff is almost unlimited if you want to go that route.
For the trans if the 700R4 works I would go with that even though it has a steep 1st gear overdrive is a nice thing to have.

To make life easy on yourself, you need to order parts for a 78 Malibu with a 305.

307 Chevy mounts are probably the old-school 3 bolt rubber/steel mount, which is not what you will need for your car. You will want the mounts that bolt to the chassis, and the clamshells that bolt to the engine.

For simplicity, the TH350 will be hard to beat, but the overdrive is nice if you do much highway driving.

Not to pick on you, but early 307 Chevys were notorious for ring seating problems...I never met anyone that had anything good to say about one in normal use, let alone trying to make a performer out of one. Not saying it can't be done, just not much potential. Kind of like the 267. back "in the day" 307s were considered in the same league as 305s are today.

And with the trans will I run into any problems with putting in place of the 200 I heard there the same set up and wouldn't have to change my crossmember and driveshaft

The rear motor (transmission) mount is going to have to be moved and the driveshaft will need to be addressed. Both issues are relatively easy and cheap to resolve.

Regarding the front motor mounts, assuming the giddyup is the same as the 80 Olds my son and I did last year, we used the Chevy clam shell style on the engine and the stock mounts on the frame. We found that the crossmember was made with about 6 set of holes to move the engine mounts. I think it was like that so that the same frame could be used by the different brands (at least I think)

Depending on which case you have the 350 would be a direct bolt in for the 200 where the 700 you will have to move the trans mount farther back and shorten the driveshaft.

My frame has multiple bolt holes I just have to move the mounts up

It might be a better idea to go with the 350 my uncle has the trans that I can buy it off I have the 700 here with me but won't a stronger trans I don't care about over drive cuz I will only run it in the summer time and my state suck for their winter and don't wanna rust it out
