Learn to solder correctly and buy some appropriate size heat shrink. Much better than butt connectors and with marine grade heat shrink it is impossible for it fail and easily hidden in loom. I solder virtually everything in engine harnesses other than 12 volt feeds.

The pink wire that feeds almost every GM HEI should be a 10 or 12 gauge wire that needs to carry about 30 amps. A properly sized butt connector will be more than adequate, but soldering is better. After the initial lay out of $35-40 for a soldering gun, some small gauge wire and flux, and some heat shrink, it works out to be cheaper than quality butt connectors. I buy heat shrink from Fastenal in 3/16" and 1/4" 10 packs.

I'm very much versed in the principles you brought to my attention- 'Just too lazy' to do it. However, the approach you mentioned is by far the best and I have acknowledged that fact in a positive +. Still, not any have answered my question regarding the 'broken snap clip': "Will leaving the pigtail inserted "without" the snap clip be a detriment"?

Only if it falls out 🙂

That's a little shoddy but may suffice. The pigtail seems to be inserted fairly tight without the 'snap clip'. The contacts are making a good connection with no movement. I believe the snap clips on the pigtail are just for assurance of no slippage. Thanks.

If it’s just the clip is broke, just go to the junkyard and get the clip off any GM 80’s car, van,or truck. You can simply slide the end of a paper clip and release the wire out of the clip. Just rebend the tab on your wire when reinserting.

if you choose to splice the wires these non insulated butt connectors with shrink tubing make a neater and better splice than the insulated butt connectors
