It's true that silver doesn't look good on just any car. Early European sports cars used pretty simple colors, for the most part...reds, whites, blues, etc.
Even Austin-Healeys didn't use elaborate colors. I can recall white, red, British racing green, black, and a light metallic blue, kinda of an ice blue that was popular on those cars.
I had a friend with a tan Austin-Healey 3000. It was actually two -tone tan and brown....but of course it wasn't the original color(s). It was an ivory white originally.
Another color that was a long shot choice was champagne gold. I'm not a huge fan of gold, but some champagne/platinum colors are kinda nice.
