I bought a set of three Kent-Moore belt tension testers on FleaBay. The one I use the most is this J-36018. It is meant for the Olds Quad 4 engine. It fits down to reach a long section of belt nicely on my Jeep Cherokee. One of the others is for actual old school V belts. Nice tools. $25 for all.
