Has anyone done this with there car?

I bought a CS style alternator for an 89 vett and put it in, but i kept procrastinating with buying the wiring harness conversion and now I'm out of time on the issue, i leave for PA on Saturday and it'll never be shipped by then.

So I'm going to just make my own harness, I've got wiring diagrams for my car, i just need a wiring diagram for this alternator, or if anyone has done this with there car I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at your harness and tell me where each wire is supposed to go, thanks guys.

Btw, if you haven't done the Si to CS alternator conversion i recommend it, the CS alternators are a hell of allot nicer than the older SI ones, and i picked up the vett alternator from advanced auto for 100$ with a 1 year warrenty.

**Edit**
If this helps any, im doing this in my 1988 Monte carlo SS, and i'm pretty sure the stock alternator had an interal regulator, not an external one.

NAPA sells the harness part number EC82

The NAPA near me is the absolute worst one ever and they had 2 in stock

It's not difficult to do at all. Are you swapping over to a serpentine setup in the process? Just run the brown wire from the original to the new, and don't use the red wire, or connect a 10-15 ohm 10w resistor in series with a switched 12v source.

Wow, yeah i checked napa and the one by me was out of stock, and can't get one in till the 31st but i hit up a local carquest and got a hold of one.

So i don't even need the red wire that runs from the BAT connection on the back of the alternator? (not the wire to the battery itself but the small red-wire that was original to the SI alternator)

Hi guys hows it going i have a question about this setup as well, if you have the harness is just a plug in play type of deal and if so what happens to the little red wire thats screwed into the back of the old alt?

Correct. The only two wires with the new alternator you will need are the large wire going to the battery, and the small brown wire.

If you're talking about the wire that's held in place by a stud/nut, it's still needed. The SI alternator has an extra wire that actually ties into the wiring to the battery, but I'm pretty sure it's an internal connection on the CS unit, so it's not needed.

You can find pics of how to do it all over. It's not complicated, just tie the original brown wire into the wire that plugs into the CS alternator.

The red wire isn't always present on the CS plug, just an FYI.

just buy the NAPA part and be done with it!!!!!!!!!!!

plug it in and your done.

No headaches!!!

:itchy:
