The loss of the car is not even the worst part of the whole thing. I am now dealing with permanent injuries to my lower back, neck, shoulder and knee resulting from the accident. I need $15k worth of knee surgery and have no insurance to pay for it. I only had $10k worth of PIP and that ran out after a few tests and a ambulance trip to the hospital. Funny thing is, the door still opened on the driver's side and the "safety cage" was still intact. Ironically, the car hit in the exact same spot I had repaired when I initially bought the car and all of my structural welding held! Unfortunately, I hit wrong inside the car as I was reaching to stabilize my drink in the cup holder when the accident happened. Sounds stupid, but sometimes we react wrong in the heat of the moment. I also had removed the under dash knee protection pad to fix a "professional" alarm install that the car had when I got it. So, my knee hit metal, not foam like it would have had the part been there. My left arm smashed out the window when the airbag hit it and the airbag also rotated my neck bones out of place. The car hit the stupid b*tch in the Rav 4 who pulled out in front of me so hard that the skid marks from my car veered off at a 45 degree angle at the point of impact. That little car probably saved my life, but my own stupid reactions in the seconds before impact left me partially disabled.

damn man. im sorry to hear that. hopefully you get everything straightened out as far as your health goes. sounds like a nasty accident. I have removed some of those structural things under the dash on my maxima as well.
at least that car HAS airbags. my el camino has none.
and I realize the car is nowhere near as important as my life...but a the moment i didnt feel like i was going to die, just that the car was.

I was glad I had the airbags, but they didn't protect me as much as they could have had they deployed right with me hitting them right. The Maxima should be a pretty safe car in an accident. Hope you never have the sort of luck in it that I had in my Sentra!

haha thanks. yeah i wont be intentionally trying that theory.

This reminds me of one of my famous blunders involving a nice '82 Honda Accord I bought right after I graduated high school in '87. It needed some work when I got it, a valve adjustment and a new mounting gasket at the carburetor, pretty simple stuff. I got the valves set, and it was getting dark out as I got the carb (This had a 3 barrel LOL) off and replaced the gasket. Got it all back together, started it up, and it was idling nice and smoothly and the valves were quiet. I was a happy camper. Got in, put it in drive to move it up toward the garage and the gas pedal went straight to the floor, and the car promptly lunged right in to the concrete side pillar of the garage before I even knew what was happening. All I saw was smoke in front of me and the engine was still revved right to the redline!

I quickly turned off the key, and got out to catch my wits. The left front of the car was demolished, the bumper and hood dented upward and the headlights gone. I'm thinking what in the F&%K happened? Well, this is what happens when you put a carburetor back on in the dark and forget to put the throttle return springs back on! $1800 in damage to replace a $1.00 gasket all in the name of stupidity. Luckily for me it did not damage my old man's garage, and even luckier (for my sanity) nobody actually witnessed this incident 🙂

thats awful...but im scared to say I almost forgot to put that return spring on too.
its just a bad feeling when you think you are fixing something and doing good for your car and it goes the opposite direction instantly.
