i had a groove in my silver cutlass' axle, from having a bad bearing for so long. i got brand new axles and bearings, didnt have the problem again. were your axles fine before?
original442 said:Yes they were fine, but groove in the axle is bad enough to where the bearing has to be cut off. I was thinking that I could just get new axles and stuff new bearings in but I'm worried about the groove in the tube...I'm going to try and post some pics when I get to school...

I don't understand how the bearing needs to be cut off, the bearing is an interference fit into the tube and even if the bearing is damaged the race of the bearing need to be removed from the tube tube. How did the bearing make a groove in the tube...
why did you change the seals and bearings in the first place?

I used to work there and I'll tell you that i know for sure that they hire a lot of people who don"t know crap about cars. Most of the people there were asking me questions including the store mgr. Constantly actually, and most even had gone to school for automotive lol.

my seal was leaking and since i bought the car from someone i didnt know if those were the original ones. so i changed both seals and bearings. the bearing was basically cutting my axle shaft off when i was driving to school. thats why it has to be cut off
