i had a groove in my silver cutlass' axle, from having a bad bearing for so long. i got brand new axles and bearings, didnt have the problem again. were your axles fine before?

Yes they were fine, but groove in the axle is bad enough to where the bearing has to be cut off. I was thinking that I could just get new axles and stuff new bearings in but I'm worried about the groove in the tube...I'm going to try and post some pics when I get to school...

When you say in the zone place, do you mean Autozone? You can't really ever trust too much advice from that place. I used to work there and I'll tell you that i know for sure that they hire a lot of people who don"t know crap about cars. Most of the people there were asking me questions including the store mgr. Constantly actually, and most even had gone to school for automotive lol.

Some of the people I worked with I am still good friends with actually, and those were the ones who knew their stuff.

I don't understand how the bearing needs to be cut off, the bearing is an interference fit into the tube and even if the bearing is damaged the race of the bearing need to be removed from the tube tube. How did the bearing make a groove in the tube...

why did you change the seals and bearings in the first place?

my seal was leaking and since i bought the car from someone i didnt know if those were the original ones. so i changed both seals and bearings. the bearing was basically cutting my axle shaft off when i was driving to school. thats why it has to be cut off

yes autozone, i got them to finally do a claim now. the dm out here in dfw argued me down and said my car came with a 7.5 rear end. he said i modified it to be an 8.5, :wtf: so that voids the warranty. he asked for the vin to do some "research" lol he called two dealerships and thats where he got that 7.5 crap from. dude also said they still sale oldsmobiles
so now its my turn for some research. i called gm heritage center and got some info and called corporate and now i have to go through that process.

All big box autoparts stores hire noobs to sell parts.....they cost less than smart ones with experience. Its the corp. mandate. Parts are cheap/ employees are cheap...profits are HIGH!!! Just take a look at their stock prices....AZ's is almost 400.00/share!

when the seals leak it's almost always caused when the axle bearing has cut a groove in the axle. If you had one seal leaking it was most likely the right side and you have an open carrier.
