Yeah the ball peen hammer trick is one i was taught years back....definitely makes it easier. Funny you mentioned the gloss black engine enamel turning gray....happened to me and i couldn't figure out why at first. Duh, jackass me, pouring rain and trying to spray ceramic paint.
Yeah I was with my dad and he painted his oil pan with the stuff (gloss black). It wasn't raining but it was plenty humid. When he finished it looked beautiful. It had a great shine. A few minutes later we looked again and it was gray. We didn't understand so he piled some more color on it and it predictably did the same thing. I think at that point I started reading the label and figured it out.

A small amount of progress to report. I installed the intake manifold, thermostat, watet outlet and fuel pump. Not that exciting, but as I've said before, progress is progress. I'm definitely not back to full strength yet. This small project and I'm out of gas. I'm happy with how it's looking though.

That is a GOOD looking engine! What brand of GM Blue is that?

I'm using the Duplicolor Engine Enamel with ceramic. I really like it.

I too am a fan of the corporate blue. Also for a quick mask you can use grease or flux with a small brush. Coat the parts you don't want painted and once the paint is dry you just wipe off the areas where you applied the grease ( obviously before they are exposed to heat ).

I also found the ceramic paint really bonds after a couple heat and cool cycles. I was lucky enough when I did my cam swap to toss all my painted parts in a makeshift oven at work and its been holding up much better than any engine paint I have used in the past.

They still look just as good now 3 years later albeit not as shiney which is fine by me 🙂

The engine is looking great, Jared. I'm glad that you're slowly regaining your strength and able to do smaller tasks without overdoing it. It's easy to get bored sitting around the house knowing you have a list of things that need to be accomplished.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate all the kind words. I'm going back to work tomorrow. My doctor would only sign off on 6 hours a day so only part time. Work requires a doctor's release so 6 hours it is. I'm glad to be going back. Hopefully I'll have enough energy to keep puttering with my engine. I'm going to work on getting some plugs to plug some of the holes in the intake and heads I won't be using.
