Sounds logical. Tomorrow they get installed. And I'll gap them to a snug .045. ALL my previous old cars had a spark plug gap of .035 whether it was a 6 or 8 cylinder...probably because they were not HEI.You have the information of what came stock in your car. You can decide on how you want to proceed. It's a carbureted V6. I'm not thinking you have to make it a mileage machine nor a powerhouse barn burner.
I really don't think much about heavy duty electrodes or any of that for a stock engine. Maybe if you were going to do severe duty with your car like run it 24/7 like a police vehicle or tow a trailer over the road with it...
With your assumingly stock ignition system, I would stick with the plug designated for your car, and as long as each are firing correctly and a .030-.045" gap is set, the spark plugs will be taken out of any equation. So if there's any issues, the plugs shouldn't be it. Why waste money buying more plugs if you already got the ones you need? Just make the gap smaller and put them in, call it a day.
I gotta plug this thread cause it's a simple decision but on page 11 and time for![]()
OK I got the new plugs in and new fuel filter. But it looks like the SeaFoam was not the culprit after all. When the mechanic removed the plugs, each one of them had a BLACK BURN RING around the white porcelain body. It looks like you used a torch on them. Not only that, but one of the spark plug wires was touching the exhaust manifold and had been arcing. And one of the spark plug wire BOOTS just crumbled when they removed it, and the contact end broke off.
Now they were not able to get me a new set of AC DELCO wires in same day, so they ordered them which should be in today some time. In the meantime, he JERRY RIGGED a new contact and boot onto one wire. I will have the new set put in tomorrow.
Car runs great even now. He said that stumbling and popping was that arcing of the wire when you hit 35-45 mph.
SEAFOAM IS EXONERATED !!!!
True.... and I think the proper AC DELCO set is 9066T it is even 8 mm which is great. They say "Professional".spray bottle of water at night will help you find arcing...🙂
we'll see..... they do have a limited lifetime warranty and have great reviews like NGK. oh and I gapped the plugs to a snug .045 like I said. Seem to work great.I would satay away from wires from Delco, it's now made in china. I would stick with a wire built in the US like Taylor
