He did rebuild mine and now it's junk filled with tiny particles of camshaft and lifter and gritty like sand paperI thought "Eric the engine guy" rebuilt it??
Head gasket?
It's the only option available at this point so I'm keeping my expectations low. If it's junk then the only thing out there that runs is a 305 and that just wont do the work I need it to. I'm going to need to do some blasting to get my 454 back together so the loner needs to make some power.Sorry too hear about your engine. Too bad you are not close to me. I have a few small blocks running around. We could have your truck up and going by the weekend. I would be Leary about an engine that has been in a fire. Usually all the oil is burnt out of the bearings and such and rust all up inside. I would make sure it turns over ok before you drop it in. I wish you luck my friend!
Well, I'd presume/hope you shouldn't be out of pocket too badly on the 454... I mean, for something to fail that quickly it had to be wrong in the assembly that was done for you. It's the only option available at this point so I'm keeping my expectations low. So, do you figure the cam just went flat or something more serious?
Kinda seems like you might need an $800 POS beater (or even borrow one) so you can just step back and breathe for a minute. Think long game rather than "good enough to get me to work tomorrow". Swapping in a burned up a loaner mystery motor is, at minimum, a bunch of extra work. I'm thinking you might need to get the hurt one out and opened up to assess the damage first.
One step at a time. Deep breaths.
