To help for Pontiac doners cars (& a good source for Pontiac V8 parts) here is what was used in the '78-'87 G.P's. '78-'80, '83-'87 the 305 was the only SBC avalible, '78-'81 a Pontiac V8 was avalible. The diesel 350 was used '81-'84. All years has Buick V6. The 4.3 FI V6 was '86-'87. Bonnevilles, LeMans, & GrandAms are the same for each year/engine options ('78,'80 GrandAm V8 only.)

not sure why someone disagreed with me... I bought my 87 with a 2000 vortec 350 from a truck already installed, and has more than enough power for everyday usage... the reason I brought it up, was going from a 6 to an 8 cyl car, you'll usually need the clamshell mount, along with the frame mount, all the pulley/bracket setup, and radiator,etc... buy it all in pieces, and you'll spend more than gettin a parts car,and more time to lose interest in a pile of parts that you're still collecting to do it with... sure, poncho 400's are nice, 455's even better, but if you're trying to do it on a budget, or using it as a daily or fair weather driver, sbc is def the way to go... poncho and BBO/BBP are just outrageous on pricing unless you don't drive it often...

I did because not everything had a 305 in it. Olds 307s were out there too.
To the OPEN, I vote badass Poncho 400.
