The "I'm Obsessive With Lawn Tractors" Thread

Eh.

So on the one hand, bearings, sleeve, etc for the main pulley on the mowing deck arrived today.

Pulled everything out to try working on it and got the pulley off the deck, which, is where I've hit a snag.

The c-clips inside really ought be changed with everything else because 1) I'm in there, 2) there was a failed part, and, now 3) (the problem) one was damaged where the posts on the pliers should go in by the old bearing flopping around. The eyes are crushed in, basically gone.

The double pulley is a $130part and I'm not paying that. So.... time for thinking.
After screwing with it for 30 minutes, and testing the amount of play and such I said f-it and send-it.

Reassembled then removed some broken toggle switches with new ones

So now the PTO is active. Took it on a test mow and got about 3/4 done when the belt broke. Irs oo, it looked rough when i threw it together and is literally a 20 second replacement process to swap it out.

So, it runs, it cuts. There's a bunch more wrong with it - steering is a bit of slop to it, not sure thr hour meter is working properly, old tractor stuff. Still, all in under $150 for functional, if imperfect, 2155 cadet.

Just throwing this out there. Anyone interested in a Worthington tractor? Needs a lot of help but is mostly there. I can find out a price. It’s in my brother’s yard and would have to probably cut down some trees to get it out.

Went with my buddy this past Sunday to pick up a Cub Cadet 2135 for his son (and trailer it to son's house). Son got married a couple years ago, just bought a house a few weeks ago, two kids including newborn and third on the way. And, no lawnmower until his dad (my buddy) gave him the CC2135.

This CC2135 is a modest lawn tractor: 20+ years old, smallish 38" mowing deck but with snowblower or snowplow capabilities. Found it on FBMP. Brand new battery, starts, runs, stops and cuts grass. All for $100. Needs headlight buckets, headlight bulbs and clear lens. In my opinion, a great starter tractor for a guy starting out. See pics below.

This Saturday, the same buddy and I are headed out to the IH/Cub Cadet junkyard run by Ray Weaver in Denver PA. Biggest item to be picked up will likely be a 341 snowblower for the CC2135.

Before the trip to the IH/CC junkyard, we will be attending the Maple Grove Raceway fall swap meet. MGR is about 20 minutes from the IH/CC junkyard. See pic.

looks like an upgrade to me. I figure this would be the ultimate starter tractor....

Got the summer gear swapped out for the snow stuff on the Cub. Deck and turf tires off, plow, weights and ATV tires on. I'd really like to find a hydraulic angle cylinder, it'd make things a lot easier on the fat kid.

I wouldn't bother with the OEM light setup.
This series is known as the "Cyclops" Cubs and any one with some age to it has at least the lens melted out of it, and usually the lamp housing too.
Seen more than one burned up as all the plastic drips down on the muffler and poof, Thar she blows.
Exhaust on the Kohler twins runs right under the plastic housing....
If he needs lights, pick up a cheap LED from Tractor Supply and scab it in there.

Actually the ones just before that are the Cyclops Cubs. These ones-

But yeah the headlights are a common failure point and not usually worth replacing unless you care a lot about cosmetics.
