It will probably set fire to it's self long before the battery needs to be replaced.

Well gas has been around since when?????

The so called death of the Dinosaurs?????

So far lithium batteries have been dying more often now that these prius and other hybrids are getting older.

Even a Tesla battery died already. 33k to replace

Im not to worried

I remember when the Prius first came out and we started getting wrecked ones. If you didn’t start the car for a few days everything would just not work. Cars sometimes sit for a while after an accident, so the Prius would be dead and jumping the 12 volt battery did nothing. A lot of these were rear ended cars and the Hybrid battery is in the rear. So insurance companies were assuming the $5,000 + battery was no good and were totaling these brand new cars. Turns out the battery cable going to the fuse box under the hood just needed to be disconnected for about 10 minutes for everything to reset. A lot of people were coming back from vacation to find their hybrids wouldn’t work and were having their cars towed to the dealer.

Even if they get the infrastructure up to snuff and make all of that electricity being produced come from green sources, then you have to factor in the time it takes to recharge the battery. Right now when you run low on fuel, you gas up in about five minutes and you’re good for another 200-300 miles or so. With electric, you have to stop and plug in and wait for the battery to recharge adding a lot of time to your trip. You’d have to plan in advance for when and where you’re charge is going to run out and allow for recharge time. Let them all go to electric and save the gas for us.

Time yourself next time you take a long trip. Gassing up, taking a pee and buying a drink takes you about 15 minutes. A quick charge takes about 20 minutes. No big deal.
