Looking at where the forward part is located on the floor it seems like it's going to be really close to the front seat. Or am I seeing things 🤔

I recall the kick-outs (raised floor sections) started immediately after the seats.

It’s close, in fact it’s extremely close, but it clears and that’s with the seats all the way back. And clearance is clearance, there’s absolutely no way the seats or brackets can contact the raised sections so I’m good with it.

Correct.

Getting ready to start burning in the driver’s side final floor piece.

Test run getting the tailpipe in and out is extremely tight, but it will go with a little perseverance. Contemplating denting the pipe slightly in the interference spot to make it easier to get in and out. Not ideal, but it won’t affect the performance and it’s not bad enough to justify reworking this whole piece.

Hello compromise. 🫤

Hello compromise. 🫤
Well, it's not that bad, really. Consider the 4th gen F-body with the V8. The factory Y pipe running under the driver side floorboard was wide and flat for clearance purposes. And those cars weren't considered slow. That was compromise. You're getting off easy. :) However, they were incredibly easy to remove/replace. I put a larger SLP aftermarket Y pipe on mine with full round pipes (as many 4th gen owners do) plus I already had the SLP Bilstein suspension system option which lowered the car a little and I still never squished it. Although I had much respect for any and all speed bumps.

It was another excellent day for progress in The Skunkworks on the ole Juggernaut today.

Mike wasn’t ready to roll on his car yet this year, so instead he suggested he come over and put in back to back weekends in The Skunkworks. He wasn’t about to receive any disagreement from me.

Not only did I get most of the driver’s side last piece welded in and metal finished out…

…(only the very side and bead roll ends left to finish off), but while I was working on this Mike was killing it on the passenger’s side.

He got the original template adjusted and transferred to metal, plus it cut out and a couple of the bends done. I then stopped work on the driver’s side and we worked together to lay out the bead roll lines and run it through the roller. We then put in the last long bend on the outer edge, the gentle upper bend in the top section and ended up with this:

Yep that’s right, we’re easily 80% of the way there on the last piece. I couldn’t be happier with the day’s progress.

A couple of overall pictures now that the last two pieces are made and in place…

…and this one, my new favourite picture. Gives a great overall view of all the work I/we have done over the last year. I’m loving the look and vibe, well at least as much as someone can love a floor.

Yeah I know it’s going to “be a shame” to cover it all up, but I gotta stick to my original plan of carpeting everything but the rear firewall. That plan has served me well so far, so I’m not about to deviate from it. It should still look amazing from the underside though.

Hopefully you all agree and like how it’s turned out, I know I do.

D.
