That is the truth, lessons learned. Big blocks and drop spindles don't mix, I have first hand experience there also!:blam:

As you said, it kicks up rocks, dirt, small animals, and road debris. 😱

Small animals??

Hopefully the only small animals I'll be running over are vipers, stingrays, cobras, barracudas and the like!
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Well, it was a long and arduous task tonight (I hate masking) but she's almost ready for her fresh new coat of high build.

I unfortunately had a couple pinholes that opened up on me at the last minute on the header panel, but I'll knock out those out first thing tomorrow evening. Then I still have to mask off the header and wipe everything down, but after that, it's onto etch and high build primers.
🙂
By this time tomorrow night, she should be back to a nice solid grey again, and I can install the header panel back on it for hopefully the last time before paint. I'll post some pics once it's primed, unmasked, and the header has been reinstalled.

Some "before" pics for you in the meantime.

I know primer isn't sexy like paint is, but the more panels I can finish, get in one color and on the car, the happier I'll be!

Thanks for checking in on the progress!

Looking good sir! I share your dislike for masking, it's on of my least favorite things, yet one of the most important. Primer is progress. :wax:

I have a air ride setup that was on my 84 regal for a few years. the wheel wells were the big thing that has stopped me from putting it back on. I didn't like running without them. I have had thoughts of getting the correct wheel offset and size to just barely clear the factory wheel wells and possibly adjust bump stops also. this build is awesome!

Hey man, great pics, great build! New to the forum & just looked over the thread over the last couple of days. Saw a picture of your hood off to the side but don't remember you covering the mods to it. Did I miss it?

Hello, and welcome to the forum! The guys on here are top notch and very knowledgeable. This is a great place to spend some time.
🙂

No, you most certainly did not miss it.

Good eye on catching that nothing has been mentioned about the hood yet! I'm a bit surprised no one else has asked about it up till now...
I purposely haven't covered the hood yet as my plan for this winter season was to work my way towards the back of the car and update you guys along the way as I go.

Now that the header panel is nearing completion, I've got to finish up my front filler panel, and do some fine tuning/tweaking on the front bumper. Then I was going to cover what went into building the hood (as I built it from scratch using three other hoods and a good amount of creativity and some help from a few other friends). The hood still needs to be finished up, and I'm really dying to get back on it and get it done. IMO, it looks great on the car, and gives it a whole bunch of bad-*ss attitude!

In case you can't (or don't want to) wait till I get there, I have posted the pics from the hood build fabrication process in "albums" under my profile. You should be able to view it here:

Here's a couple of teaser pics from during the build process to pique your interest....

Thank you sir!

As I mentioned earlier, at this point I'm kind've eyeing up a set of '69 Camaro wheel wells as I think the outer wheel arch shape should be close to my Cutlass openings. Unfortunately that will still entail quite a few modifications to make them work and look at home in there, but as I'm sure everyone's seen by now, I'm not scared to get in there and cut things up to meet my wants and needs!

I'll likely have to section the inner part of the fenders and raise them a bit (probably only a half inch or so) because as you found the tires just sit too close, and no one wants the weight of the front of the car resting on the front wheels and wheel wells. In my case, the inner arches just rest on the tops of the tires at full slam.

As you mentioned, wheels with different back spacing (and likely a smaller diameter wheel) would probably fit without having to remove or modify the stock wheel wells. Unfortunately for me, I'm in love with my wheel and tire size/choice, so I'll just have to cut and weld till it all fits!
😀

Thanks for following along with me.

Why don't they mix? I have 2" drop spindles with my all iron big block with no issues....
