Nothing. That's not what he was referencing...
 
with the hinges in the original location they cause the hood to hit a pin and help to fold the hood...without the hinges this hood probably would have gone thru the windshield...

So what stops it on the above mentioned car or many others that are made the same way. The set up on my 79 Corvette worries me more than his new set up.
 
this pin (bolt) in the bottom right of the photo is what stops the hood but without the hinge in that location the hood can easily jump over that pin..on car designed with hood to open like from the back they are designed to have the hood fold in case of an accident

i had the buick hinges on my s10, there are rear catches on the buick hood at the rear, thats what i used.
 
the hinges hit the bolts (catches) and folds the hood....without the hinges there is nothing to stop the hood from heading thru the windshield
