Yea that's next. I wanna do that at a track and see wut the car does.
 
What your dad may have been confused with the correct way to hook up the vacuum for the advance is to a thermal switch which in turn it hooked to the manifold vacuum. The reason being is during warm up with the high idle you don't want advance at that point and when the engine warms up the thermal switch opens allowing the vacuum
