TIRED Of Dealing With People Selling Items

Yeah, they turn on you fast. I experienced this (once more) not to long ago on Classic Oldsmobile site. A fellow got a 1968 442 with a 1967 E-block 400 engine. He decided to go LS and was selling the Olds engine. He listed it with a price, as required. I was the "first" replier and said I'd buy it. As per rules, seller must go in correct order. I contacted him, told him I'd pay all shipping cost and any cost for his time/supplies/etc.
Hmmm, I noticed another member pm'd him and he was a hundred or so miles away. Seller backed out of our deal and the other "member" bought it. I told him if it was a money issue he should have told me and gave me a chance. He apologize said he didn't mean to be a "dick" but he was.

I agree to first come-first served. I have had too many people no-show after I've told someone else they have to wait. If you want it held, gimme a deposit. If you don't like the car, you don't get the deposit back. Simple. Even $100 on a $5000 car would be fine. If you're so interested that you want it held, it's a small gamble.

Then there's the sellers that tell you they don't need a deposit, then sell it on you anyway.

No shiit. I had a friggin' GMC dealership do that to me on a truck. Dealership was about an hour away, and I called and yes, truck was still there. I asked if they took deposits. They said yes, and they were refundable for up to 72 hours. Cool. I want this Denali truck you got there. Has everything I want and nothing I don't want. PERFECT. I'm coming that way, get the keys out of the lockbox. How do you want deposit? Credit card ok? "Oh, no, no need, you're fairly local so I'll just hold it until you get here." Bonus! Was just about to walk out the door to leave when my phone rang and it was the dealership saying "my" truck got sold on me. WTF??? So I hung up on him. Never do business with that a-hole again. He called back later and he had to leave a message cuz I wasn't talking to him. Said he found another truck that was close. I never called him back. He can go suck my dlck and then suck the other guy's dlck as far as I care. I'm done dealing with jackf*cks like him. Took him a while to realize I was serious I guess. He called for at least 2 1/2 weeks trying to get me to come in the dealership. If he was on fire I wouldn't p*ss on him.

I'm with ya.. A guy was selling a detroit truetrac posi unit with 3.73 ring and pinion for a 7.5 listed for $250. I messaged him and told him I would take them. Hes about 200mi away, but I would go pick it up.. he wanted to wait until he was in town here and meet more locally.. when will that be?

July......

I just said nevermind.

I would have told him I'd pay $300 or even $350 if he could make the trip the next weekend....to me $50 or $100 is worth not taking a 400 mile round trip....

I buy a lot, I sell a lot. It's a good system except for the fact you need to interact with people. And people are totally unpredictable. I just sold a 1969 LUND commercial skiff, 18' long, just freshly stripped and re-painted. Complete with a 35hp outboard and a trailer. I listed it at a reasonable price for me. I got endless calls where dreamers talked my ears off then ghosted me. Lots of "how low will you go?" calls. Even consignment outfits. The best was idiots that called to complain it was "too old". So I raised the price to a figure that was not realistic and the stupid calls ended. Finally a couple of brothers called and wanted to actually come see it. They did and were really interested so I offered to unwrap it and get the motor started, in January. They didn't even ask if the price was negotiable until they saw it was a solid boat with a good running motor. I told them why I had the high price and that I still only wanted the reasonable price from before. They ended up buying it and still call with questions and ask for advice. Too bad the abi-normals seem to outnumber the normals.

I have had stuff for sale and they contact me to see what the lowest I would take is. I tell them the lowest I go and they still try to get me to go lower, pisses me off

I recall a few years back I had a back and forth trying to sell a 455 intake.

72 455 4-speed intake- PCV port on front of intake, kinda rare. $300.

What's the lowest you will take? Will you take $175 for it?

No, but I'll tell you what. Make it $300 and it's yours.

That's too much. I can find them for less than $200.

Then go buy one of those. Mine's $300.

I could write a whole book on dealing with dipshits both buying and selling. I even used to take vacation days from work for people to come pick stuff up if it was worth it to me money wise. After a few no shows I quit doing that. If you really want it that bad you'll make time to come get it when I have time. These days the very first question 99% of people ask is " what's the lowest you'll take". Even when the price is clearly listed in the ad. Now I just answer "what's the most you'll pay ? ". That usually weeds out most of the dreamers and lowballers. Or the ones that ask questions that are already answered if they actually read the description. I could go on for days.
