Agree!Yes. Stock axle for the 8.5. Will slip right in the 28 spline 7.625 carrier.
I have 28 spline KA axles with a Detroit Locker from Tom's Differentials.

Hmm.... 7.625 must've started in 85 then. All the 85-88s I've seen had a 7.625. I thought they were all 3.73... learn something everyday.the SS did not always have the 7.625 carriers and they did not always have 3.73. The SS had 3.42 and 7.5" carriers in 83 and 84.
Correct, depending on the build date. I was told some early build 88 F body and S-10 family had the 7.625 with 26 spline axles. 1988 was change over year for GM.thanks for straightening that out, I guess it was just the F body who got the 7.625 with the 28 spline axles

As explained to me the 7.625 ring gear added .125 to the overall ring gear diameter, In a G Body no changes to the housings or the carrier were made to use this "wider stronger" gear. All the 7.5 housings and carriers would accept the 7.625 parts.
I have to admit....I laughed at that "wider stronger" statement!😀
I believe a few years ago SLP was selling 28 spline Camaro take out posi's for $100.00. A 28 spline eaton carrier is about $400.00 and the Moser axles are about $250.00. Most of the 8.5" s I've seen seem to range $800-$1100Would you know if the side gears for the 28 spline would fit the 7.625 carrier they used in the SS. I wonder why GM would use the 26 spline with the 7.625 carrier in the SS when they had 28 spline available that they used in the 442 and GN.

Half inch studs are a plusHere is the link on the new Moser axles....
