upgrade to bigger rear brake drums

73-77 lists the same brake drum for the Abodys as the Gbodys

I recall years back, I was looking for new aluminum brake drums to replace my steel drums. no one seemed to carry them....nor were they available anywhere.
I couldn't see spending $235. @ for aluminum drums. I'd much rather put that money towards converting to rear discs. either F-body or S-10 Blazer.

Over the years I had come across aluminum drums at the junkyard. I kinda thought I'd be taking a chance buying used drums and not knowing if they'd already been over cut or cracked. Although they were probably cheap enough to risk taking a chance.

I picked up a 2000 Camaro SS axle at the UPullandPay for $125. I used the calipers, hoses, hard lines, backing plates, pbrake shoe. I replaced the pads and rotors, but I could have probably used them in a pinch. As a bonus, the axle had a Torsen and 3.73 gears that I made work in a different G-body axle. The LS1 rear swap may be more cost effective than chasing bigger drums if you can do some leg work.

The 67 Chevelle rear I have in my GP uses the same drum, thew shoes are the same size but are different design due to the bolt in wheel cylinder

these brakes can also be found on 73-77 "A" body wagons. if junk yard hunting, watch out for the bolt in axles which used the larger axle flange pattern. must come from a c-clip rear end. i swapped these onto a nova axle i stuck under a 56 chevy wagon years ago. rocking set up at the time. direct bolt in with working parking brakes.
