Are you talking about the plastic centering sphere halves? I'm trying to think about what plastic sleeves are in that area and I'm having trouble recalling any plastic sleeves other than the tilt sphere.
Which if needed, you can find it under GM p/n 26026564. List price from GM is $13.71

Originals are white. You can see them here where the upper shaft and lower shaft comes together to form the swivel joint. If they wear too much or the spring breaks or whatever, they can flop around.

I have a feeling that is my issue. I feel a bit of movement in that area after changing all my front suspension, braces, lower bearing, ps gear box, body bushings. After adding a 1” rear sway felt alot better but slightly there. I thought it was just bumpsteer.

I chased the play in the steering wheel in my Grand National for a long time. Tried the steering box, shaft, tilt mechanism screws. In the end it was the plastic sleeves at the upper shaft pivot point. I replaced them and no more play in the wheel.

Any idea of a part number? Where are they located etc? Is this part what you are referring too? GM # 26026564

Here ya go guys, conclusive evidence you don't need to buy one of the expensive kits online to fit a bearing to the foot of your G-body steering column. The Jeep plastic bearing-carrier (mentioned in an earlier post) fitted my Gbody steel retainer and its clip without modification. The bearing pressed in fine.

Good deal. So Crown and Rugged Ridge are the parts you bought? Please provide the part numbers, etc., I mean, 18019.02 doesn't seem like a part number. I don't think.

EDIT: Never mind. The retainer is available at Advance Auto for $3.99 with that part number. Who'd have thought? Oh, and Summit has them for 2.99 and Oxi-Ada has a year long 5% rebate....wow.

Meh, mixed and matched places to order it from. I ordered me up two of those bad boy sets. It is cheap relatively. With taxes/shipping/etc., it came out to be 48.55, or 24.28 each set. Don't look to Amazon for the bearing. $41 and change each from there. I got a spare tilt column I want to rebuild but can't locate the GM retainer parts. Thanks for the tips, shoedoos

69hurstolds, you're right, in hindsight it would be just as easy to order this $18.85 set from ebay...

As I investigated the bearing/carrier etc, I figured why do I need the steel retainer/wire clip when there is a perfectly good one on my column already? If anybody finds the bearing at a reasonable price feel free to post your info for others to see in the future.

And fleming442, yes, it is an optical illusion, also distorted by the fact I laid my new firewall gasket over the top of that linkage pocket...
