Re: Another Daily Driver

Any way to run upper control arms to the axle tubes? Kind of like you'd find on a tahoe, trailblazer, jeep wrangler, etc.

Re: Another Daily Driver

It might be possible and was my first thought, but it would require even more fabrication. I'm going for the easiest, quickest option right now. Just need to get the car rolling again.

Lol, I had drove it to work a few times before I took the rear out.

Re: Another Daily Driver

My buddy got the brackets welded up for me today. He also added the new mounts for the additional lower arms and welded the tubes to the center section.

Re: Another Daily Driver

Got the front mounts for the lower links welded on. Not the greatest weld but I think it'll hold, lol.

Ready to be installed. Then i'll weld on the panhard bar bracket and measure for a driveshaft.

I also found out that while I did have a set of 2.41 gears and a 2 series carrier, somehow the spider gears for the carrier went missing. My friend that has already helped with other parts and a lot of the welding had this sitting in his garage so it'll be going for now.

Lol, thank you sir.

Re: Another Daily Driver

More progress! Even though the on and off rain tried, it couldn't stop me from getting the car back on four wheels again. 😀 Some pics as it went together. Had to cut off my tail pipes for clearance.

You can see the panhard bar here. That was the last thing to get welded today. Car is actually on the ground in this shot.

These tires aren't staying. The rims may have to stay for now but i'll be getting smaller tires before it hits the road again.

Re: Another Daily Driver

Nice looking project. I had a white Chevette Scooter just like that(well except it was all stock with the slow 4 banger 🙂 ) It was a 1983. The only mods I did was to add the antenna(the Scooters(aka base no frills model(as if the Vette had a frills model) had a cap over the the hole where the antenna went) I also got a glove box door from a "high end" model and added a radio and speakers.

Of course it was slow as crap and gas was $1.05 at the time in the 1990's when I had it so it had no real purpose as a daily driver over a larger car I had.

I also had a 1992 S15 GMC Jimmy(the sister to the S-10 Blazer) I was getting 23 mpg on mine(it had the 4.3 TBI motor) Is yours the one that says VORTEC on the plenum or the one with the top of the engine air cleaner? If it is the Vortec one you should be getting 18-20 mpg just driving it. Did you check to see if the "spider" fuel injector was leaking into the plenum? (It was called a spider because it was a big assed fuel injector connected to 6 hoses each attached to a cylinder to pump fuel into that cylinder) the hoses leak and cause fuel MPG and/or running issues. The easiest way to check to see if this is your issue is to remove the cover that says VORTEC and shine a light down and look. If any of the area is clean or has a goldish tint then the thing ruptured and the gas cleaned the area

Good luck
