Re: Another Daily Driver

Couldn't take the way the engine was looking, so I cleaned it up a bit. I repainted my Moroso vlve covers and painted the block and intake red. Cleaned the alternator a bit and also hit the headers with some VHT. I had hoped to paint it this weekend but my DA decided to fall apart.

Re: Another Daily Driver

Bought another DA and finished sanding down the chips.

I was losing daylight by the time I masked it. I ended up shooting a coat of sealer with my shoplight on for light. I was actually shocked to see it look level with no runs. It was my first time shooting enamel, let alone in the dark, lol.

Then bad things happened when I attempted to finish the job. I could only go a few strokes before the the pattern would change. The more I sprayed the less paint i'd get. I mistakenly started fiddling with the gun. Then realized the vent in my cup was plugging up creating a vacuum. At this point I had a couple of shitty(rough) coats of sealer down. I said to hell with it and finished it that night, again into darkness. This time I didn't turn on any lights in hopes of keeping the bugs away. It didn't work, lol.

It didn't come out too horrible, I can live with it. Maybe a lil sand and buff later. With the body done. I painted the bumpers and grille and bezels in satin black. Then through some tint on the windows.
And no, I didn't bother to fix the dents.

Re: Another Daily Driver

Well the car is still here. Almost traded it and had a couple people interested but nobody could come up with cash. So I went to the junkyard the other day and grabbed a new rear for it. Just a 7.5 with 3.73's. The gears will most likely be up for sale soon. I'm planning on running 2.41's. I'll have more pics as the fabrication begins.

Re: Another Daily Driver

Got the stock diff out tonight. After looking it over and taking it apart, I don't think my original plan to reuse the torque tube is gonna work. Sucks that GM had to use this design and make my life difficult, lol. Got some ideas though so we'll see if I can pull it off. Here's a pic of the pain in the butt design.

This is the stocker next to the S10 7.5 that will replace it. Never seen a 7.5 look so beefy, lol. By the way they are within an inch of each other wheel mounting surface to wms.

Re: Another Daily Driver

I managed to get all the brackets cut off the original diff. Then got them tacked on the new one. I'm only using a flux core 110 mig so i'm letting my friend who welds for a living take it to work and finish welding it.

I have a plan to add a link from under the spring pocket to the front of the original control arm. Essentially it would mimic a ladder bar setup and hopefully will control the axle roll. We will see.

Re: Another Daily Driver

Any room for a torque arm like the Fbodys used?

Re: Another Daily Driver

As it is now I will most likely be using a full length driveshaft instead of the torque tube. So there might not be enough room for a torque arm. Besides i'd have to fab it from scratch anyway. I think the added links will be simpler, but possibly not the strongest.
