Valve Lash Adjustment

I can just imagine what it will be like trying to turn a push rod that is only exposed by a couple of inches. That and the fact it will be oily and slimy. Then I also realized that this will be only used on poly-locks. A stock jam nut only has one adjustment- 20lbs torqued. The best tool for this will be the wrench that has the open end that fits the nut and the T-allen that fits the nut lock. He refused to buy that too but I could use one in my collection. I will definitely make him buy the beers.

That is a great tool but it's a bit pricey on amazon in Canada ( CDN$ 124.61) so I did with a wrench and allen key....

That's reason # 67 why I avoid Amazon lately. It's less than $30 on Fleabay and comes with two different allen T's. So after I posted that I realized that the way I did it was probably a lot easier on an engine that is IN the car. An engine on a stand with no intake where you have all the room in the world to maneuver- yeah- that is the way to go. But leaning over a fender? Standing on something to reach? Naw. I think starting at #1 intake valve and working your way one at a time all along one head and then along the other is how I would do it. You just need someone to crank the motor while you watch the valves open and close or, even easier, have a starter jumper push button right there. But spinning the pushrod and tightening the nut until zero lash is reached and adding 3/4 or so is definitely the plan. No more oil squirting all over the place for me!!

On my Monte I hardwired and mounted a button on each inner fender so I can watch the valves and turn it over at the same time without help.

Very smart. That looks like a sealed Perko or Cole Hersee marine grade switch. Very heavy duty. It is unbelievably convenient having a button to bump the motor over.

I have the ford style solenoid so I have a switch with two alligator clips that I use to turn it over
