VIN tampering

A local guy has a 66 442, 4 speed, A/C car for sale. He's in your price range, 25k, but it needs a few things (has Buick rims, Gardner exhaust in the basement/not installed). I have his number if you're interested.

No thanks, looking for a driver. I have a project car already I'm struggling to get done with my stupid health like it is.

But, typical, the motor in this 67 is a 425 [casting 389244D]. VIN is a 442 so someone someone took out the original 400 and put in a 425. Or, this is one of those "urban myth" 442s with a Toro engine? I believe the former . . .

Weird how the one at Smoky Mountain has a 425 in it too but is advertised as a clone, not a numbers match 442 like this one.

Now, the 425 was a fine motor, better in some ways, but not the original and has the 45 degree bank angle problem unless it was a Toro engine.

Had the correct 390925E on some of the original paperwork.

Got shots of the undercarriage today. This car had a frame off and is VERY nice. Just not numbers matching as advertised and those early 400s are hard to come by if I wanted to properly restore it.

I actually have an extra 425 [virgin] crank and rods set . . . same C&R as the 400. I put the all forged 425 C&R in my 455 block to make an over-square big block [as I've said elsewhere] and the guy had an extra set for reasonable so I thought, WTF, why not have a spare? So, if I could find a decent 400 E block, I could fix this but again that means project car. Although, it runs perfectly as is so I could just drive it in the meantime until I get my '87 done . . . ??

My problem, not yours . . .
I still suck at this though!

Not an MB fan boy but have you seen how cheap SL550s can be had for? I mean less than 30,000 miles, 2011 for $30K?

Anyway, not seriously considering buying one but I did run across one that caught my eye and look at this . . .

I mean, it is literally calling my name , , ,

On the 67 front, this bad boy is back on the table. Turns out it has the Toro 425 with the modern 39 degree bank angle and an appropriate cam. The 700R4 has a lock switch for the converter and the safety disconnect for the brake pedal. So, if I can get them to talk price since it's a clone and they are asking non-clone pricing . . . well, we'll see?

Still don't like the radio in the console but . . . there are "it's easier" reasons to have it there. Or to change it too for that matter?

Never was much for burgundy interiors but, I don't know, it kinda works against that dark gray

Notice the twin fans in the headrests? This car is so freakin fast, it has bi-turbo headrests!

This is scary. I ran across this video of the "sound" of the AMG. Check out the length of the video. It is scary how often that number and I cross paths.

Question is: Is it trying to tell me . . .

a) Buy the AMG?
b) Buy the 442 above?
c) Get off my *ss and get the 442 I already own back on the road?
d) It is completely meaningless Garth, seek meaning elsewhere?
