VIN tampering

I still say a Rallye 350 makes a good buy...half the money, all the goodies except 455, and collision-avoidance paint to boot! "The Hurst that never was"

If only I didn't hate yellow . . .

We are actually quite close on this beauty [until I ran across that GS]. This thing has 45K actual plus it is cheaper and needs NOTHING! Loaded up with the important goodies and a 455/T400 from the factory. You could eat off the undercarriage. Doesn't have the vinyl or convertible top hassles. Pretty car . . . a simple sleeper!

And all this, [7 pages] just to have a cruiser car until I get my 442 back together? But, truthfully, even when it's running again, I can't just take the 442 to the doctor or grocery store anyway. Someone would frack it up just to be an a$$hole. I've got the old Tacoma when utility really matters?

Back before I got sick, I was fortunate enough to have a Porsche Cayenne for a short time. I went to Home Depot one day and as usual I parked clear out the hell away from everyone. When I got out there, some dick had pushed a flat cart all the way out there and rammed it up under my Pepper as far as it would go. Went and talked to security but their cameras didn't go out that far. Guess I should have parked closer, huh? Put an orange blemish on the bumper I was fortunately able to polish out and with the under body shielding it didn't muck anything else up. Guessing they were hoping I wouldn't notice and try to drive off that way? Idiots!

You know, I already knew I suck at selling stuff. I didn't realize that eventually I could suck at buying stuff . . .

I thought we were close to a deal on that pretty blue Cutlass above and suddenly the answer was not just no but hell no and now he won't take anything but an asking price that is now $12K above classic car book value.

Seriously, $37K for a regular Cutlass? "High" retail classic car book value from both Hagerty and NADA is $25K for this car. And I actually offered $28K. It is a nice car.

So, I ran across this beauty today priced at $24,999. I called and said I have actual cash but just needed some shots of the undercarriage before we move forward and . . . look what happened to the price?

Now, it's $39,999.

Back in November it was $30K and didn't sell which is why he dropped the price to $25K.

I am personally responsible for driving up the cost of classic cars for sale!

IMO, all these consignment/dealer/specialty car places are bad for the hobby. They drive up the price, but the seller really doesn't gain anything other than their ability to market the vehicle for the seller. Something most sellers could do, but apparently are too lazy/ill equipped to do?

Used to be that there were specialty dealers that handled well-vetted, quality cars and had a reputation to protect. Appears these days any slicked-up turd will fill the bill, all while giving them the out that "it's what we were told".

There was an all orange Malibu wagon at one of these places for a ridiculous price (for what it was), poking around on the internet located an ad from a little while before the dealer listed it...the ad stated that the car had a cracked block in it, but the dealer said they had not been told that and couldn't verify if it was or wasn't.

The search continues . . .

Meh, both those cars were obviously fake anyway. I mean look at the pictures .... shot from two different angles but the background is the same! 😀

Hey guys, if we are discussing cars here, then cool. If this is appearing like just "Garth whining about buying a damn car" then I'll close it off. I figured sharing things like what might or might not constitute VIN tampering as well as lessons learned with all of these cars I've run across "should be" beneficial to others in the market . . . plus I just like the car p*rn aspect of it too. But, if not . . . then enough already.
