Look up Alex's Parts, It a guy based out of Northern Cali that does Custom springs that will fit the vortecs with no machining. I paid $120 shipped for Springs with everything and even shims. Been using them with no problem. He also has them for roller and flat tappet cams

when I was looking for a roller cam for the vortec heads I did some research and this is the general opinion with vortec heads....that is why I chose the ZZ4 cam with a the low lift and I believe the ZZ4 springs and retainers are less expensive than $120

"Generally speaking, Vortec's stall at between .500” and .550” valve lift. This is where flow actually begins to decrease. But their true strength is low lift flow which gives more area under the total flow curve. And if you think about it how long are your valves at peak lift? They spend much more time at .400” and below, where the Vortec’s outperform most other heads. This combined with high velocity, lack of turbulence and superior combustion chamber design are where the Vortec’s stand out. "

With some different springs. Which springs specifically are you thinking of using? Obs beehives arent going to work..
