What carb should i use for my car

I've ran my Edelbrock for over a decade, sitting through the hood, in the rain. Never had a problem. My vote would be Performer RPM intake and Performer series 600(or maybe thunder series 650) carb.

Well thanks for all your opinions I guess almost everyone is for Quadrajet and Edelbrock performer series dual plane intake.

Well 454Musle its using up a lot of gas but my brother in law found out there isn't a fuel regulator so its dump fuel you can smell it through the exhaust fumes and see the gas needle go down very fast so the fuel pressure gauge is reading 12lbs of pressure so I ordered a regulator for it but the main thing is I have a holley 600 and a victor Jr intake and they told me to change the carb cause I won't get great mileage with it and the intake isn't suitable for my car cause I'm not running high rpm so they said get a dual plane intake with a Quadrajet so that's where I'm at.
Ok bro first thing you need to do is get that regulator on. Otherwise you're gonna run rich no matter what. It will run better after that but you *should* also change out your intake to have it run correctly for the engine. There are people who will buy your victor junior intake as well, by the way. Put it on Kijiji and craiglist.

Next, if I were you, I'd surely get the carburtor changed. Here is what you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/QuadraJe ... 45f74b28ca

And also thats some good info from art by the way.

Thanks again 454Muscle for the Ebay listing im going to go with that Q-Jet and a brand new Edelbrock Performer RPM Q-Jet 7104 intake for it and i also appreciate everyone's help.

well ive ran all three edelbrock q jet and holley but by far the best ive found is the quick fuel tecnolegys i just took off a edelbrock cause the quick fuel ran 10x better and only paid 375 for it reminder dont put on to much carb !! 8) heres how to figure what cfm u need cid x peek rpm u want to run divided by 3456 = cfm example 400 cid x 5000 rpm didided by 3456 =578 cfm

That almost urban myth stoneage formula is only slightly better than throwing a dart. It leaves many even street engines in fact most drawing too much vacuum ie leaving power on the table. Anybody who tunes carbs at a carb shop or dyno hates it. I am not knocking you personally as 5 years ago I didn't know any better and used it and its still all over the net.

I have another question would it be ok to go with a 750 Q-Jet instead of the 650 Q-jet or will the 750 be to much for what i want.

im runin a 750 q-jet on my malibu it works great but i got the motor to back it up. trust me ive seen dozens of people throw on a bigger carb to their motor hopin it would give them more power. bigger carb isnt always bigger power. if u got a basic motor like nothin big done to it like mild cam stock bore and so on id go with the 650 itl run good with ok milage and plenty of power but if u got lets say a thumper cam like mine and had ur ports in ur heads smoothed out so it breathes better or anything like that id go with 750 cuz u dont want that motor starvin for gas

Ive used em all, and quadrajets are some of the best IF you know how to really tune em to get the most out of them. On a sbc build Ive always had the best of luck with speed demons (Barry Grant). I have had 2 750 . one for the strip and one for the street. They were simply drop on and go, easy to change jets and squirters like the holley's . And they are also a nice lookin carb to boot. I do run a 1050 dom on my elco , and the 750 demon on my 388 sbc 74 ss nova. Like i said though Im not nockin the quadrajets especially the 68-70 model ones they are the best hands down IF you know how to tweek n tune em.

Thanks for the info the only thing is I bought the car with what it has I don't have the real specs on what lunatics cam it has or what set of rollers it has etc.All I was told was to change my intake cause it has a Victor Jr cause its to much for my car and get rid of the holly carb I have if I what to save gas and get good mileage. So I just wanted to know if its ok for me to use a 750 or 650 instead but thanks for the advice.
