Swung by HF and grabbed a pair of hog ring pliers in anticipation of the rear seat covers arriving in the next couple weeks.

Finally found a hood for the cutlass! Looks so good with a flat hood on it, even if it is a different colour.

As soon as I put it on I decided I don't like hood scoops anymore.

Aren't there a bunch of oil system mods you can do, too? Got those?
They don't hurt, but aside from a balance line from front to back, you still have the restriction of the galleys and bearing/crank holes. For a mild ~420hp 350 they aren't necessary. Just a good setup timing cover, .002 max bearing clearances, optional oil balance line, and it will be fine. The 455 is the engine that really benifets from the mods. The balance line mainly. #7 and 8 rods are ALWAYS the things that go on post nailhead Buicks. The oil mods also include very precise drilling and if done wrong, the block is trashed. I'll get in there as far as I can by hand/dremel and clean up flashing and open up the pickup tube hole to 5/8 (early 9/16 factory tubes arent available). That and the hardened backgrooved TA bearings with their 7 and 3 o clock oiling holes will be plenty. Oh, and if I break this one in with oil pressure, that'll help.

I'll give you props for keeping the car all buick, but you are justifying my LS swap with every problem you have with that thing.

Just sounds like a nightmare.

What problems? The blown headgasket because the sh*t radiator made it over heat? The low oil pressure at idle because of a Chinese timing cover?
You don't have to do the oil mods if you don't want to. It won't be the death of the engine. Any engine you hop up should have things like better than oem replacement bearings and have extra things done to ensure oil gets where it needs to be as easily as possible. They aren't like an LS where you rip one from a rolled silvarado and make 1200hp, you have to have some care in building them. All they need is a good timing cover with .002 endplay on the gears, and bearing clearances of .00175 to .002. That's it.
My engine has about 83,000 on it. It's been re ringed twice at least. Once at least by the p/o, and once by me. I've put 13,000 on it so far in the 2 years I've had it. Both winters it started every time (providing shitty parts store batteries didn't freeze), and has never left me stranded. It makes over 200hp to the tires with a mild cam, bone stock everything else. It's fine by me. :D
Plus it was always just a placeholder engine. It just so happens it's literally the best 350 Buick put out.

I'd have ripped it out for a 400 Pontiac, allowed it to do what it was meant to, keep boats from floating away.

068 cam, 6x-4 heads and a performer RPM intake. 400ft/lbs all day, and bolt up to your transmission. That's a win son.
