Today was my appointment day to pick up my badge to access the airport property with my work truck. Because work would have been otherwise slow today, I opted to take the rest of the day off and go to the wrecking yard. The closest of my local
Pick-n-Pull wrecking yards has a front wrecked '85 Grand Prix from which I gained an AC/heat control panel including the vacuum lines back to the connector, and several inches of wiring harness to go with the switch plugs. It feels like it moves smoother than my existing controls. I also grabbed the rear window defrost switch and about 8 inches of harness to keep around in case I add rear defrost to my Caballero. Some would say that I don't need rear defrost with such a small cabin, but those concave rear windows are difficult to scrape ice from in the winter. Nearly all of the interior that had any value was stripped.
The other vehicle (I actually sought it out first) that I got parts from was an '86 Pontiac Trans Am which still had both of it's electric wedge mirrors intact. I have wedge mirror buckets already, so I only bought the electric motors and the mirror glass to finish converting the wedge mirrors that I have.
Tomorrow, I plan on going to a different Pick-n-Pull location farther from home. Their website is showing two g-body vehicles that were both added to their inventory in the last week or so. I don't know about Pick-n-Pull locations in other regions, but the four near Seattle usually send cars to the crusher after only 4-8 weeks. It is rare to see a car on their website that has been in the yard more than two months.
