What did you do at work today?

Spent some time juggling tank cars around
Then had an oopsie at the end of the day
I've had a few of those oopsie's. One night we were switching on the south-end and put an engine on the ground, Management told us to leave it and go finish switching on the north-end. On our 1st cut of cars, 2 long drawheads mismatched and derailed. We had both ends of the yard shut down for a few hours.

Was off to a different section of the light rail project yesterday. A portion of the 3rd phase over in Redmond, Wa. near the Microsoft headquarters, running truck/trailer hauling dirt off of the jobsite, had to drop the trailer, go to the asphalt plant to get 1-1/2 tons of hot mix asphalt for one of the crews to fill two holes in the street that they had done some work at.20201019_150113.jpg
Both holes were about 3ft square and 10 inches deep. The super said that one ton was more than enough, but we got extra to make sure it would stay hot enough to compact into the hole.

Some background for this light rail project that I have been working on. Sound Transit is an intercounty agency, currently operating in King County (Seattle), Pierce County (Tacoma), and Snohomish County (Everett), Washington.
The first phase was completed several years ago and added on to a couple of times, mainly running from the University of Washington station, to one stop south of Seattle-Tacoma (Seatac) airport.
The second phase includes a portion north of Univ of Wa to an area called Northgate, and a section east of Seattle to Bellevue, and Redmond, terminating across the street from Microsoft headquarters.
The section I have been working on recently is part of the 3rd phase, north from Northgate to Lynnwood. Yesterday's work was 3rd phase on "the eastside", east of Lake Washington (not certain how long that section will be).
Here are two pics this morning of the current terminus of the Lynnwood station.

The job is expected to last about 5 years, and I have been on this piece for 10 months so far. Of course the dirt/ground work portion is only a couple of years, tapering off until again at the end when landscaping goes in.

Most helpers these days are just hinderers. The young ones are always on the phone. The older ones are just dumb, otherwise they would’ve moved on from being helpers. We have a helper that’s 57, and he sucks, but he can lay under a car for an entire day, then go back and do it again the next day. Any other job, completely useless.

I'm starting to get a bad rep as someone who no one gets along with but all I ask is they work and let me do my job! It's really not that much to as ask. I'm not a baby sitter. This guy was late 50s and asked me if I would feel his bodywork for him. Wtf? Then I gave him another car to do and he refused like it was beneath him. I don't think so Tim
